“Grand Theft Auto V” makes $800 million in One Day and Proves Console Gaming is Not Dead

The news and media loves to spread dirty laundry. So if a company is losing money or an industry is not as strong as it once was, the media is always the first to spell doom and gloom for that particular sector. That being said, the gaming industry might not be as bad off as what some media sources would have you believe. Is it as strong as it once was? No. However, the launch of “Grand Theft Auto V” proves that the days of people spending $60 for a game are far from over.

Experts have been saying that kids no longer want to buy one $60 game. They believe that gamers would rather buy 60 $1 games. However, the latest sales figures for “Grand Theft Auto V” prove otherwise. In fact, it proves that what gamers really want is just good games.

The fifth installment of the Grand Theft Auto series has proven to be a focal point as of late. There are two reasons behind this. First, it is a focal point because the media likes to attack video games like this for violence and explicit content. Is it worse than what you can see in movies and on TV? No, not really. That being said, the media is always quick to blame gaming. Second, the game has been a smash hit. In fact, it was able to bring in $800 million in sales in just one day. That is impressive no matter what industry you are in.

The good news for the game does not stop there. Industry experts believe that the sales for this game will continue to increase at amazing rates. Due to this, Take-Two Interactive has seen its shares increase 1.2 percent to $17.20. Its shares have climbed nearly 12 percent since July of this year with the growing buzz for this game.

The sales for this game are impressive. In fact, Take-Two Interactive spent around $250 million making this game. That is a pretty heavy price tag for a video game, but it all turned out to be worth it. This shows that gamers are not done buying games. They are just done buying bad games that developers just slap together.

The sales for “Grand Theft Auto V” were so high that it even beat out sales for “Call of Duty: Black Ops II,” which was able to sell around $500 million on its first day. This is amazing since most games judge their success by the sales of “Call of Duty: Black Ops II.” It now seems that “Grand Theft Auto V” has set a new standard.

When the game was first announced, some people assumed that it might not do so well for the simple fact that it was being released on the Xbox 360 and PS3. These are two systems that are about to be replaced by the PS4 and Xbox One, both of which are not backwards compatible. So the people who buy this game for their PS3 or Xbox 360 will not be able to play it on the next systems, should they choose to upgrade.

Are you picking up “Grand Theft Auto V?” Does it bother you that this game cannot be played on the next generation of systems?
