The New Year is here! There was a pretty exciting finish to 2013 with the release of the Xbox One and the PS4. Now, the next-generation console war is in full swing with Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony facing off again. One thing that all three companies want to do is make sure that they keep their systems in stock. This should prove to be easy for Nintendo since its system has been out a year. Microsoft and Sony, on the other hand, could find that this task is difficult.

Sony and Microsoft both had a great launch with the PS4 and Xbox One respectively. It is hard to pick a winner so far since both consoles are selling out. Some are saying that the PS4 is in the lead, but it isn’t by much. The PS4 won’t firmly take the lead until it is launched in Japan. Microsoft consoles never really sell very well in Japan. There is one thing that won’t keep people from getting one of these systems, and that is availability. Both console manufactures learned from what happened to Nintendo last generation, and they have both ramped up console production.

For those who do not remember, the Wii was a huge seller when it was launched last generation. In fact, Nintendo was unable to keep up with demand. For the first year, it was almost impossible to find a Wii unless people paid crazy prices on eBay. In Some cases, people were selling the Wii for over $1,000. To avoid this problem, Sony and Microsoft have made it a point to keep stores stocked with their systems.

This is a great idea for many reasons. First of all, it is great because these companies need to make sure that their systems are easy to find while the hype for both systems is still really high. Over time, the hype will start to lessen and sales will slow. Companies really have to make the most out of a launch so that they can get their consoles in as many hands as possible.

Although the system is usually sold out online at places like Wal-Mart, most physical retailers still have consoles available. Thus, for people who are looking for a PS4 or an Xbox One, they are still pretty easy to find. This should help Sony and Microsoft sell a ton of consoles in 2014.

The real test will be to see which console is able to keep its drive. The best way to do this is with high-quality games. Right now, the Wii U has the best lineup of games, but it’s unfair to compare because the Wii U has been out a full year longer. However, Sony and Microsoft can both learn from Nintendo’s mistakes. After watching Nintendo’s rough start with the Wii U, they can see just how important a great lineup of games is for a system. Wii U sales have been increasing but only after AAA titles like “Super Mario 3D World” started coming out.

With all three consoles easy to find this year, which one will you pick up? Price will play a big role in which system sells the most. The Wii U is the cheapest at $299, and that comes with a free game, such as “The Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past.” The PS4 costs $399 but doesn’t come with a game. The Xbox One also doesn’t come with a game, but it does come with the high price tag of $499.
