Beyond Black Mesa: The Live Action Fan Film and Excellent Tribute to Half-Life. And Zombies!
Beyond Black Mesa, the independent fan film inspired by the Half-Life Video Game series, is a blast to watch. Focused on a new character named Adrian Shephard, the film shows him and his ragtag squad of resistance fighters plowing their way through zombies and danger to make sure the world knows about the impending invasion that is building inside of Black Mesa.
The creators of this film didn’t do this in a weekend either, it took over two years to create Beyond Black Mesa, with hours upon hours of post production. What’s even more amazing is the fact that it was all filmed with just a single Canon HV20, 7 Friends, and a $1,200 budget for the full film – talk about efficiency!
As the creators put it:
This film is not HL, HL2, or Opposing Forces. It’s a short fan film that takes place in the Half-Life world. Also, as a completely independent film, we wanted to have a creative voice in the movie and make it a movie that we would enjoy shooting. We took artistic freedoms and liberties, unfortunately most of those decisions were determined by our limited resources.
