I for one welcome our new overlord: Google buying Motorola Mobility for $12.5 Billion!

With Google facing court battles and legal disputes around the world and especially in Europe, it seems that anything they do results in patent issues. Rather than delay the release of Android-based devices such as smart phones, tablets, desktops, and other embedded technology, Google has taken steps to purchase the mobile wing of Motorola.

Motorola has been most successful with their Android gadgets, creating fine products such as the Droid X, the Droid X2, the Atrix 4G, the Droid 2, and the XOOM tablet, a hefty device that is considered by some as the best tablet on the market.

This acquisition will put Google in direct competition with Apple. Which is good or bad depending on which company you like more. Among a few other companies affected by this turn of events will be Samsung, who is one of the largest supporters of Google’s Android phone OS – not to mention most successful. Even more, Sony, who has always seemed to have a good relationship with Google now must feel alarmed by the big new contender in the mobile market.

Once the stock market settles down a bit after all of the Congressional disputes, Apple announcements (Steve Jobs stepping down), and the trades and buys happening recently, it will be interesting to see who ends up on top. Only time will tell.
